Black holes are the most bizarre objects in the universe. Nothing ever leaves a black hole. No light leaves. No physical object leaves. Once something enter a black hole, it is there forever. If you were to arrange a flight to a black hole, it would have to be a one-way trip. As the scientist Robert Jastrow said, " It is almost as though the material inside the black hole no longer belongs to our universe.
Suppose, just for the sake of amusement, that you happened to drop into a
black hole. What happen to you? Whichever part of your body was
leading the way would be pulled more strongly by the gravity than the
rest of your body.
Think of going feet first. Your feet would be pulled down faster than
your ears. As a result you would be drawn a very thin strand of matter.
Then the individual atoms in your body would be pulled apart. The atoms
themselves would be torn into neutron, protons and electrons. All this
would happen within a fraction of one second.
Were you to survive the trip, however some scientist believe that you
would emerge in the forth dimension. You would be in a totally different
universe. The point where matter exits from this universe and goes into
the next is referred as a white hole.
Some scientist think that a black hole
might someday serve as time machines of a sort. They would carry
people to the remotes past or the distant future.
To think about a black hole means to throw out all our old ideas about time, space and travel. Scientist believe there are at least five black hole in our section of the universe. But, then, no one knows for sure. Our knowledge of black holes, is based on informed guesswork. Scientist are force to judge something they cannot see. They will continue investigating these powerful, invisible, "hurricane " in the universe, hoping to find a definite answer. For the rest of us, black holes remain a fantastic mystery whose incredible possibilities lead our mind into dreams and visions of a universe that is far different from what people have always believed it to be.
